# Answer a waiting run

> Stop a run that waits at Check with me. Only the person says go.

Answers a run waiting at a Check with me step. Go is the person’s word: they say it on the canvas, or signed in. From an API key or an MCP sign-in, `"go"` answers `403` with `code: "person_required"`, so tell the person the run waits for them. Anyone who may change the workflow may stop it.

Name the step you read the run waiting at (`waiting.id` from [Get a run](https://docs.orgo.ai/api-reference/workflows/get-run.md)). Once the run has moved on, the answer is `409` with `code: "run_not_waiting"`, so a retry never answers the next step.

## Path parameters

**id** `string` *required*

The workflow’s id, like `morning-report`.

**runId** `string` *required*

The run’s `run_id`.

## Request body

**choice** `string` *required*

`"stop"` to stop it, or `"go"` to let it go on (signed in as the person only).

**step** `string`

The step it waits at, the run’s `waiting.id`. Required when the workflow asks more than once.

**text** `string`

Why, with a stop. At most 500 characters.

## Response

**run** `object`

The run, as [Get a run](https://docs.orgo.ai/api-reference/workflows/get-run.md) describes it.

## Example

```bash cURL theme={null}
curl -X POST https://www.orgo.ai/api/workflows/morning-report/runs/$RUN_ID/answer \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $ORGO_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"choice":"stop","step":"c","text":"Not this week"}'
```

```python Python theme={null}
import os, requests
r = requests.post(
    f"https://www.orgo.ai/api/workflows/morning-report/runs/{run_id}/answer",
    headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['ORGO_API_KEY']}"},
    json={"choice": "stop", "step": "c", "text": "Not this week"},
)
```

```javascript JavaScript theme={null}
await fetch(`https://www.orgo.ai/api/workflows/morning-report/runs/${runId}/answer`, {
  method: "POST",
  headers: { Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.ORGO_API_KEY}`, "Content-Type": "application/json" },
  body: JSON.stringify({ choice: "stop", step: "c", text: "Not this week" }),
});
```

Replace `$RUN_ID` with the run’s `run_id`.

### Go from a key (`403`)

```json theme={null}
{
  "error": "Only the person can approve this step. Ask them to open the workflow and press Go, or stop the run with { \"stop\": true }.",
  "code": "person_required",
  "next": "Tell the person the run waits for them: they say go on the canvas. You may stop it with { \"choice\": \"stop\" }."
}
```

## Errors

| Status | Code | When |
| - | - | - |
| `400` | `invalid_body` | A `choice` that is not `go` or `stop`. |
| `400` | `step_required` | No `step`, and the workflow asks more than once. The body carries `waiting`. |
| `401` | | No key, or a key Orgo doesn’t know. |
| `403` | `person_required` | `"go"` from an API key or an MCP sign-in. |
| `403` | `key_permission` | A restricted key without Workflows write. |
| `404` | `not_found` | No workflow, or no run, by that id. |
| `404` | (no body) | Workflows aren’t open to your account. |
| `409` | `run_not_waiting` | It no longer waits at that step. The body carries the `run`: read it before you answer again. |
| `409` | `run_waits_for_agent` | It waits for another agent, not a person. Stop it with [Stop a run](https://docs.orgo.ai/api-reference/workflows/stop-run.md), or wait for the agent’s answer. |
| `413` | `body_too_large` | The body is over 32 KB. |
| `429` | `rate_limited` | More than 30 runs and answers a minute for this workflow, or 120 for the account. Carries `Retry-After`. |
| `503` | `runs_unavailable` | Runs can’t be changed here right now. Retry after a minute. |
| `503` | | Orgo couldn’t verify the key because of a server-side fault. Retry. |
